Browntail Moth Populations

The Maine Forest Service conducts annual Browntail Moth surveys and in the last several years has seen a dramatic increase in the moth's population.

Aerial surveys last summer indicated damage from just-hatched caterpillars, particularly in Waldo, Knox, Kennebec, Cumberland, and Androscoggin Counties, that may indicate that populations are abundant enough to cause significant discomfort in a far broader area this summer.

Please read the provided materials to learn more including what measures can be taken now to help reduce their population.
