Officer Jim Cook is a native of Portland, Maine. He was hired by the department in April of 2000 as the Animal Control Officer. In 2002 he was appointed to the state Animal Welfare Advisory Council by than Governor John Baldacci as the Animal Control Officer representative. In 2004 he was selected for a patrol position. Officer Cook is a member of the department's bike patrol unit, is one of the department's Evidence Technicians and is a Field Training Officer for the department. Officer Cook is a Certified Instructor for Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Electronic Speed Measurement Device Training (radar and laser). Officer Cook is trained by DHHS as a Phlebotomist (Blood Samples for Forensic Alcohol Analysis) and is a member of the Cumberland County Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement (RIDE) Team.
